Members of Camp Oyo Staff Association Inc. organize volunteer workdays to help preserve the historic log cabins and program buildings at Camp Oyo. Many of these structures were built with Civilian Conservation Corps assistance during the 1930s and remain in active use for youth camping programs.
What Volunteers Do
- Inspect and maintain log cabin exteriors and roofing
- Clear debris and prepare program areas for seasonal use
- Support trail access and forest stewardship near camp facilities
- Coordinate with Simon Kenton Council staff on preservation priorities
Why It Matters
Camp Oyo has served Scouts and youth groups from Ohio, Kentucky, and surrounding communities since 1926. Preserving these buildings is a core charitable purpose of the association, ensuring the camp's heritage remains accessible to future generations.
The association does not operate Camp Oyo directly; the Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America owns and operates the camp. Volunteer efforts supplement the council's maintenance with charitable labor and resources.
